I’ve worked for The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) for over 12 years and am incredibly proud of the way in which we give each person supported the opportunity and encouragement to do things that they enjoy so that they can continue to live a fulfilling life.  As a former Activity Coordinator, I worked a lot building and maintaining community relationships and really enjoyed this element of my role.

So, imagine how delighted I was to hear that OSJCT were going to be working with Community Circles to run a project which combined both things with such a unique, innovative approach.  Needless to say, I was quick to apply for my new role!

It’s fairly early days for us, our current focus is to spread the word amongst local communities, people living in the care homes and their families to recruit volunteers to support us with the project.  But we’ve run our first couple of Circle Meetings, and we’re delighted with the conversations that are already taking place.  You and I take for granted the everyday activities we do such as pop to the shop for a loaf of bread or to rake the leaves in our garden.  But these are the things we’re hearing that some of the people we care for would like to do more of, so we’re excited to make it happen.

The project, which is being funded by Oxfordshire County Council, runs throughout 2020 so we hope to soon have lots of stories to share with you. If you are based in Oxfordshire or knows someone who is and you’d like to find out more, please drop me an email at e.cwiklak@osjct.co.uk.
